Steve Willis - Author Profile

The author started his working career with the Royal Air Force as a linguist serving in Berlin for nine years.

After leaving the service he spent two years learning accountancy with a firm of chartered accountants where he quickly developed a special interest in taxation.

He later decided to set up on his own in order to specialise in taxation. It was at this time that he discovered another interest, that of writing. Having newly set up his own practice, he quickly needed to ‘sell’ his knowledge in order to pay the rent and buy groceries. Writing articles about taxation seemed the most obvious solution.

His first guide came thanks to the confrontation between the Revenue and the building trades over their employment status.

That dispute gave birth to IR35 – the attempted legislative definition of self-employment.

Since then he has published over thirty guides on specific tax topics. These are primarily aimed at working accountants. The author contributes to many trade journals and writes a regular feature in Practising Accountant magazine.
